“If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show. Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, agreed with Stark, telling Swooon that same month, “I would actually love to see Buck grounded in a relationship and experiencing it in the fullest way, someone who would probably extract that best side of him like an Abby, but with the freedom that he now has to be the fullest version of himself with a Tommy.”

9-1-1 Stars Who Have Been Open About Their Sexuality In Real Life
"9-1-1" has long been lauded for it's representation of the LGBTQIA+ community, and some stars of the spinoff "9-1-1: Lone Star" have even been inspired to come out publicly because of it.
Tim Minear is now back in the driver's seat as the showrunner after its move to ABC, and it's clear that the move has infused the show with new energy and passion.
Stark also made it clear that he had no time for the haters who criticized the show simply because his character was bisexual. Many of the calls the firefighters make are to members of the LGBTQ+ community, which is never a defining feature of their personalities, but rather just a part of who they are.
Since then, Buck's circled around the same issue of finding love in the wrong places.
Buck's bisexuality is a new opportunity for him to open up a part of himself that he never knew was there. Or maybe he did know it was there, but he's just been suppressing it for some reason.
I have criticized the show in the past for not being consistent with its storytelling however there were fun deep cuts for the longtime fans, including callbacks to various queer-coding moments, such as Maddie and Buck's conversation about Tommy in her home, which harkened back to when Buck first gushed over Eddie in season two and she called him out for his "boy crush".
Healthy male friendships are still not a common thing to see in media, and it was refreshing for Eddie and Buck to provide a new perspective. When Buck apologized to Tommy for the incident, Tommy unexpectedly kissed him. Buck loathed how Eddie giggled like a schoolgirl whenever he was on the phone with Tommy. Those are just two ships that fans have further popularized with the help of fanfiction and social media theories.
There's also the unbearable envy when one of them spent time with a new male friend and the fact that their sexualities were never explicitly defined. In fact, at the time of this writing, the "9-1-1" star is in a relationship with real-life partner Hannah Gotesman, his longtime girlfriend. But then, there are the stolen glances and the hands on the hips when hugging.
One possible explanation is that they are simply two men who have a really close friendship.
It may just be that, for a really long time, a platonic relationship was the writers' intention for Eddie and Buck.
Stark's most important point, though, was that when he did defend the show, it wasn't so much a statement to haters as it was a message to LGBTQIA+ viewers. “It’s just such an honor to get to be a part of telling this story, so thank you guys,” he said.
Stark has portrayed the fan-favorite firefighter since 9-1-1 premiered on Fox in 2018.
“And one of my biggest joys of playing Buck over the past eight/nine seasons is getting to tell the story of him discovering his bisexuality.
