While in 1965, Gaye topped the R&B charts with both “Ain’t That Peculiar” (#5 in Vancouver) and “I’ll Be Doggone” (#4 in Vancouver). He recently concluded a US tour supporting Elderbrook, but he’ll still bring the new mixes to the masses soon. They dedicated it to him at his inaugural festivities.

Between 1972 and 1989 Ashford & Simpson charted nine singles into the Top Ten of the Billboard R&B chart.

Her demise is said to have contributed to Marvin Gaye’s battle with depression, which fed his fretful masterpiece, What’s Going On.

“Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” continued to soar. Tammi left him because she didn’t want her butt whipped,” said Bennett.

In 1963, Terrell recorded the song “I Cried” which cracked the Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at #99.

Pop never felt more intimate or ecstatic.

Insurmountably superb

Released on April 20, 1967, the song made a disappointing No.19 in the US, though it’s now regarded as a classic. She recorded “If You See Bill” credited to Tammy Montgomery. And from April 20th to 30th, 1966, – for eleven consecutive nights – Marvin Gaye was a headliner at The Cave supper club in Vancouver (BC).

In 1967, Marvin Gaye teamed up with Tammi Terrell and began recording a series of hit-making duets.

Several more non-charting releases came and went. That year, Terrell accepted Ruffin’s surprise marriage proposal. Ruffin had a wife, three children, and another girlfriend in Detroit. But Ashford and Simpson had an eye on a contract at Motown, and believed that a new composition, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” was what Ashford called “the golden egg.” Dusty Springfield heard it and liked it, but the canny tunesmiths held on to it, believing this moving song could provide leverage at Motown.

And Marvin really did see himself as a solo artist, saying, “I didn’t start with a group. Today, sound files ping across the internet and collaborations happen without artists even meeting, but in 1967, duets were normally recorded together. I hadn’t had a chance to hear her. “He beat Tammi Terrell terrible. The latter was a #12 pop hit and a number-one R&B hit in 1984.

If soul was about physical passion in a gospel context, this song is its apex. If the 60s gave us the love generation, here was an anthem full of love. In 1957, Marvin was discharged and formed a doo-wop group called The Marquees, who backed Bo Diddley. He’s set to open for KYGO at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida tonight, May 2nd—he’s also booked to play Into The Horizon festival in San Diego this summer.
