TikTok was flooded with deepfake videos of YouTuber and pro boxer Jake Paul seemingly coming out as gay in October 2025.

The ultra-realistic deepfakes — which were created using OpenAI’s video generation model Sora — depicted the boxer draped in an LGTBQ+ Pride flag or dancing ballet in a tutu, all while encouraging viewers to accept his sexuality.

Many have been fooled by the deepfakes, with TikTok commenters pointing out that “AI is scary” for how realistic these videos seemed.

With the launch of a Sora app in October, users can simply enter a brief prompt and the AI model can generate an extremely realistic visual representation.

Sora has been widely condemned throughout the entertainment industry for intellectual property violations, prompting OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to announce in October 2025 that future versions of the model will “give rightsholders more granular control over generation of characters.” However, Motion Picture Association chairman Charles Rivkin complained to Deadline in October 2025 that Sora already created countless “videos that infringe our members’ films, shows, and characters [and] have proliferated on OpenAI’s service and across social media.”

“While OpenAI clarified it will ‘soon’ offer rightsholders more control over character generation, they must acknowledge it remains their responsibility — not rightsholders’ — to prevent infringement on the Sora 2 service,” Rivkin insisted.

Not long ago, the Chinese brokerage company Minsheng Securities Co., Ltd. published a research paper claiming rotten culture to be a great business opportunity, and recommended buying shares in several of the industry’s related areas.

Of course, rotten culture is by no means a gay rights movement. In interviews with journalists, the couple said that although they were disappointed with the outcome, they felt reassured by the large number of people who had come to support them.

Such shows of popular support contrast with the intransigence of the law and social customs — for all of the gleeful hyping up of same-sex friendships, there is still a ban on the inclusion of homosexual themes on television shows.

At the end of last year, washed-up male pop singer Wilber Pan published a picture on China’s microblogging platform Weibo of him holding hands with another man under a Christmas tree, accompanied by the caption: “Both of us here wish everyone a Happy New Year.”

The image, which many believed to be a coming out announcement, became a trending topic on Weibo, with many entertainment news outlets picking up the story.

The Future of Celebrity Impersonation Scams

These scams will get worse before they get better. The website “Jinjiang Literature City” is a place where people can write and share fiction on rotten culture.

According to FTC data, 40% of romance scam victims first encountered scammers on social media platforms.

Quick migration to private messaging. AI technology has a dark side when it comes to online scams. Ask questions. After all, Chinese society is conservative, and acceptance of homosexuality is still relatively uncommon. According to a study by the Pew Research Center in 2013, only 13 percent of Chinese agreed that homosexuality is morally acceptable, 61 percent thought that it was unacceptable, and 17 percent believed that it wasn’t a moral issue.

Although the Chinese media reported widely on the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States to legalize gay marriage, many Chinese parents expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling on social media on the grounds that it may have harmful effects on children.

For a long time, Chinese-directed films that contain homosexual content have been banned from public movie theaters and on domestic television.

The text-to-video AI model was launched by OpenAI for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro subscribers in December 2024 to create short videos based on users’ text prompts. Scammers can now:

• Generate realistic photos that don’t exist anywhere online
• Create deepfake videos of celebrities saying personal messages
• Produce AI voices that sound exactly like famous people

This makes traditional detection methods less effective.

These weren’t just romance scams—they were get-rich-quick schemes using celebrity credibility.
